Following previous work with the offsite specialist contractor we we were commissioned to work on this new Children's Centre. The building is constructed using a modular timber cassette manufactured off site and assembled on site which provides a number of environmental benefits, chiefly that of the structure being sourced from a renewable resource and containing low embodied energy, but also allowing the specification of additional sustainable materials such as cellulose insulation, that work in harmony with the timber frame and improve the thermal performance of the building, helping it achieve very good results in environmental assessment procedures such as SAP and BREEAM.

The building uses a sedum roof which helps control fluctuations in temperature, reduces heat loss and reduces water run off. Openable clerestory windows which run the length of the building are part of the passive lighting and ventilation strategies.
