The key principle of this project was its simplicity of design in order to meet the constraints of both the site and budget, and to create well designed spaces that better cater for the care of small children. In order to achieve this, the children's spaces were located within a new build extension to the existing community centre, allowing its users to benefit from higher ceiling levels and increased natural daylight.
Service spaces were housed within the existing community centre, which enabled facilities to be shared and build costs to be reduced. By designing out the need for internal partitions, we were able to create flexible open plan spaces that can accommodate the wide number of activities that the children participate in.
