We were commissioned by Worcestershire County Council to work on this Arts Centre at King Charles I School. The building is constructed using a modular timber cassette manufactured off site and assembled on site, providing a number of environemental benefits, chiefly that of the structure being sourced from a renewable resource and therefore containing low embodied energy. The specification of additional sustainable materials, such as cellulose insulation, that work in harmony with the timber frame and improve the thermal performance of the building, helping it achieve very good results in environmental assessment procedures such as SAP and BREEAM.
Other sustainable technologies utilised include a sedum roof, which helps control fluctuations in temperature whilst reducting heat loss and water run off, a wood pellet boiler and solar panels. The building recently won the Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice.
