Bedford Heath village master plan is part of the South East Midlands LIFT initiative. Sjölander da Cruz Architects put together this scheme for a new health centre in partnership with Balfour Beatty.

Our master plan was developed through close consultation with the local planners and the health authority to produce a scheme that addressed both the site and the needs of the health centre.

An important site that sits adjacent to the old town centre of Bedford, we felt it vital to integrate our proposal into the fabric of the town. Our scheme is designed to reconnect the site into the civic heart of the town and respect the scale and aesthetic of the surrounding late Victorian civic buildings.

By re-discovering the old axis of the town, which is set by the civic buildings adjacent to the site, we intended to reinstate this site into the town and unify the civic centre of Bedford.
