Located at St. Oswald's Primary School the new Children's Centre is built on a constrained corner of the site. Part of a series of four similar centres around Worcestershire, the challenge of this project was to create a building that fulfilled the clients brief within the constraints of the small site and budget. The brief required a flexible and stimulating environment combined with the functional service requirements of a children's centre, as well as creating an informal and friendly setting for the new services.

The nature of the setting meant the new building was located in a tight corner surrounded by residential properties. This created its own challenge between the sympathetic approach required to the residential boundaries and creating a building identifiable as an important centre for the local community. This was overcome using a duo-pitch roof design, reducing the impact of the new building on the boundaries and providing a striking form that defined the design of the new centre. The building has been designed to provide a light and welcoming space in which the client can offer sessional childcare and training.
