By being open and inclusive, the new facility tackles exclusivity and antisocial behaviour through investing trust in and engaging with the local young people who also use the site.

The new building is arranged around an axial central social space from which the served spaces are accessed. The reception pod acts as a pivot between the piazza and public double height space. By addressing the entrance and the public drop in area it is designed to be welcoming and to provide security.

The new Centre has become an integrated and valuable addition to the local community infrastructure, knitting together the disparate buildings and sections of the local community. This building goes further than the remit of the brief, to actively raise the aspirations of the users, and inspire the next generation who will grow up using the facilities.
