Located on a rural site outside Shrewsbury the design has sought to respond to its location with the use of contemporary and natural materials creating a warm and inviting aesthetic. From the outset it was intended that both in its construction and operation this new school for Shropshire County Council would be an exemplar of sustainable construction.

Located on a rural site outside Shrewsbury the design has sought to respond to its location with the use of contemporary and natural materials creating a warm and inviting aesthetic. The design is based around a central 'street' linking the classrooms, providing a breakout space where children can interact and learn from one another. This learning street moves away from the idea of a sterile corridor to a living, learning space at the heart of the school.

The school is constructed using a modular timber cassette manufactured off site and assembled on site, allowing an accelerated construction programme and reduced embodied energy. The building was envisaged to become a showcase for the use of sustainable materials and sources of energy which in itself will act as a useful educational tool both for the school and the wider community.
